Real Estate Radon Testing Requirements
The primary rules are:

Use two radon test kits when testing during a real estate transaction
Place the kits in the same room, within twelve inches of each other, and no closer than four to six inches apart
Duplicate kits must have identical information, including the address, floor, dates, times, and temperature
Circle the "Reason for Test" as Real Estate, so the computer knows that the results should be averaged
Place the pair of kits into a single envelope so they arrive together
We strongly urge you to avoid the US Postal Service, unless you are nearby (even then you should use Priority Mail instead of First Class mail

Quick Reference About Testing

Test during any season
All outside doors, windows, and vents should be kept closed from 12 hours before starting the test until the end of the test
Maintain normal entry and exit routines but close the door behind you
Permanently installed radon mitigation systems, air to air heat exchanger, and/or combustion air supplies for furnaces, etc., can be operated normally
Do not operate whole house or window fans during the test
Avoid blowing air near test device
Do not start radon test if severe weather is expected. (major storms with winds exceeding 30 miles/hour
Do not test if holidays will prevent your test from reaching the lab on time
Exposed 48 to 96 hours (2-4 days)
Mail radon test samplers within one day of completing the test
Test result will be an average of the number of days exposed
