ALPHA TRACK RADON TEST KIT

ALPHA TRACK RADON TEST KIT

Placement of the Radon Test

Measure radon by testing the lowest livable area of the building used regularly. EXCEPTION: Citizens of Pennsylvania are required to test the lowest LIVABLE area of the building. Optional- Place a do not disturb sign where the test is being conducted so the test remains valid. Use one alpha track radon test kit or  short term radon test for every 2000 square feet being tested. If rooms are sealed off from one another, more kits may be used if you choose to do so.  This may give you a better average of the concentration.  If a digital radon detector, or radon monitor is used it can be moved from room to room (read instructions before using it.)  The short term radon detector should be within the normal breathing zone (2 to 6 feet from the floor). Either place the radon tester on a table or shelf, or hang it from an interior non-masonry wall. Make sure tester opening has at least 4 inches clearance from anything and it is facing toward the open area of the room. It should be at least 3 feet away any heating or cooling vents, doorways, windows, exterior walls, and hallways. Do not place or use a blower or fan of any type in the room with the radon test device because its sensitivity to radon may be increased. Keep it away from direct sunlight or any heat source since heat may reduce the sensitivity of the device.  DO NOT test areas of high humidity, such as bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, closets, or damp basements. If a damp or humid room (over 55% RH) must be tested, test for the shortest recommended period.  DO NOT place this sampler within 3 feet of another activated charcoal device unless it is the same type and model. They can then be placed within 12 inches of each other, if conducting radon testing for a home or a real estate transaction.  Since this is general information, make sure you follow all directions that come with your testing kit

Receiving Radon Test Results

Radon lab has processed over two million radon tests. You must provide complete readable information or a reprocessing fee may be charged before releasing results. Send the sample to the lab A.S.A.P. Radon does not last forever. If the sampler takes more than a week to get to our lab your test result will not be as accurate as one that arrived within three or four days. Over 8 days to our lab and you get only an estimated result. Over 12 days, NO result can be provided. If you have not received your radon test results within three weeks, send your name/address, the times, dates, serial number of the test, and any other pertinent information to:
